Friday’s Fiasco
Friday’s fiasco leaves us feeling frustrated and fearful… what a f&!?up
We’re in the midst of reviewing the contract with the builder, signing the land registration papers and choosing siding colors when Shawn drops by and lets us know that “the sky is falling”.
Since we walked the lot on Tuesday, the septic team has determined that the septic field needs to go where we planned to put the house. So the foundation guy was called in and determines that if the house moves further forward, we’re looking at an additional $15,000 - 20,000 in excavation costs!!! WHAT!!!
Apparently shifting the house forward means putting it in the midst of a hill. With the house located there with the garage on the right hand side of the plan, the driveway would be downhill and would need to be built up - we would have a 12 foot dropoff at the back - YUCK! The rear half of the foundation would also require strapping and significant infill… and the list goes on.
We’ll be meeting Shawn, the septic guy and the foundation guy on the lot on Tuesday morning at 8am to discuss our options. For now, we’re feeling very dejected.
